December 15, 2006, Newsletter Issue #157: INCREASE THEIR ATTENTION SPAN

Tip of the Week

By the age of three you can work on your childīs attention span a bit and help him grow in this area. Give your little guy a planned activity, such as coloring or play dough, and require him to stay with it for a fixed period of time. Set the timer. Start with 10 or 15 minutes. Do this twice a day to begin with, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and not when theyīre hungry or tired. Build up the time gradually. Stick to your guns about waiting for the timer when they say theyīre all done in 5 minutes. Focusing is a skill and like any skill, some people find it easier than others, but everyone can learn.
